  • Windows 7!!!

Wow! I just downloaded and installed Windows 7 RC, and it’s AWESOME!!! If you’re super nerdy like me, and have a spare, reasonably up to date computer lying around, I highly recommend you pick it up. Of course, you have to be a true nerd to enjoy the benefits of a new operating system. The changes are simple, but beautiful. The new features are the kinds of things you don’t need, but once you have them, you use them on a daily basis. There are all kinds of videos out there detailing what exactly Windows 7 has to offer over XP and Vista, and they’re all pretty straight forward. The GUI has been tweaked a bit, there are a wealth of new desktop abilities and features, and a bunch of “who would possibly need that?” features that people like me thoroughly enjoy. For the past few hours, I’ve been drooling over the new features and their infinite possibilities like the proverbial “kid in a candy store.” Just ask my girlfriend! I would detail every new feature, but I’m too busy playing around. Peace!

Note: Installing a new operating system (including Windows 7 RC) requires ERASING your hard drive. Do not beta test Windows 7 on your primary computer.

  • My roommate had the demo, and I played around with it. I liked it a lot. It takes care of a lot of what Vista missed by a long shot. Of course when we tried it out, not everything played well with 7, but hey, it’s a demo…. on full launch they should be able to work most of the bugs out. I’ve got a spare PC lying around that I’m rebuilding… I may just put the 7 demo on it and give it another test run to get acquainted with it so that when people start bringing me their computers with problems I can be prepared.

  • @respawn87 - It’s well worth it. I got Left 4 Dead running just fine, (although this GeForce 8400 GS is nothing compared to my dual 8800GTS setup. The graphics were as bad as Wolfenstein 3D!! Well, maybe not, but you know what I mean.) I also installed it on my TiVo computer, which has a single-core processor. Holy cow is there a difference! I never noticed the difference upgrading, but when I downgraded, I couldn’t stand it’s slowness! I took the processor out of my girlfriend’s computer (an AMD Dual-Core) and the difference was unbelievable. I can’t wait to try Quad-Core!!! The features of Windows 7 include everything I’ve ever wanted in an OS, and more. We’ll see how much use I get out of the ‘more’, but for now I am thoroughly enjoying the little quirks.
