Can you all just shut up about politics? I've been staying away from Xanga for the past month because I'm sick of hearing about it. If you honestly think that people are going to change their opinion to yours because of something you blogged or commented on Xanga, please consult a psychiatrist.
So, I picked up an Xbox 360 from a friend (and two wireless controllers) for $200. That was too good a deal to pass up, but I never wanted or paid any attention to Xbox games, or recent Xbox news, or anything Xbox, really. So now I had an Xbox, and no idea what to do with it. I went to YouTube and searched "Best Xbox 360 games" and in the No. 1 spot on every single list was Gears of War. I looked at some gameplay, some trailers, some reviews, and anything else I could find in video form on YouTube about Gears of War. It didn't really look "all that" from what I saw, but since it was the best game ever devised (per all the reviews) I figured it'd be worth a shot.
I've been playing it now for a few hours, and despite how difficult it is to figure out the controls (even after using an Xbox 360 Controller for Windows to play PC games) it's beginning to pull me in. I absolutely abhor 3rd person shooter games (or any 3rd person games), and this one's gameplay style is no less annoying than the others, but I am getting into it a bit.
The beginning of the game should contain a plot hook, if you will. Something, a video maybe, that contains everything you need to know about why you're running around shooting everything in sight. Some games take it way too far and open the game with a two-hour video that's too long, and too complex to even take in, and some games play a 30-second intro video that basically shows you what your character looks like, just before you go into a massive battle for no apparent reason. Gears of War combines the two by playing a massively long plot video in short to medium lentgh bursts throughout the game. This is a great method to plotlining a game because the plot can be fully explained in anal detail while still keeping the player's attention.
What does Gears of War look like? To put it exactly, it's "Quake 4" meets "Unreal Tournament 3". I haven't played online, or in multiplayer or co-op mode yet, but from what I've seen, Gears of War should end up being a decent experience overall.

Like, you, I've never had any desire for the Xbox 360 or related games, but I have heard a lot about Gears of War. Looks pretty good from what I can see. I don't play too many 3rd person shooters, so my experience is severely limited anyway. You got a pretty good deal out of your friend man, the 360 itself usually goes for a little over $200 (used), not to mention the wireless controllers that you got too. That's very cool.
Around Xanga, it's either politic or love as a topic, so I choose love.
Happy Birthday to you. God Bless, Know fun, Know joy.
@RestlessButterfly - I choose daily life. It certainly wont get me featured, but I think it's what blogging is really about. Thanks.
@elliefatani - Thank you.
@respawn87 - I guess Microsoft is selling some sort of "Arcade Edition" now for $199. I think it comes with a bunch of Xbox LIVE arcade games, and like zero hard drive space, and one wireless controller. Either way, all the stuff I got is worth $366.97+Shipping on Newegg, so I still got a good deal. And Gears of War is really awesome. Once I got used to the 3rd person (which took some doing) the game really took off for me. It's quite scary, and the picture is totally brilliant in 1080p. I hope I can finish this game before Gears of War 2 comes out in November.
@vwagenjetta - Mmm... you are lucky to lead an interesting kind of life. My daily life is far too dull...
I'm sick of it too, not to mention how my father LOVES to have the TV on about it all the time. I just want it to end.
And I wish I had a 360.
Oh come on! We NEED to talk about politics!
BTW I dropped the 2,5R from the Revo into the Jato. It's pretty sick.
@Dare2BDiferentt - Grrr. I wish I had money to bust out the T-Maxx again. Sitting in my closet in plain view, it's a real eye sore when I know I don't have the cash to get it fixed and running.
@vwagenjetta - There is nothing worse than having a $300 machine sitting in your closet and not being able to use it, man. Hope you get it right soon. Imma add another Jato vid soon.
@Dare2BDiferentt - You said it. Of course, I've put about a grand into it in after market parts, not to mention the sheer beauty of my JRRadio with LCD screen and precision tuning. *sigh* Once I get back on my feet, the T-Maxx will reign again!
That first paragraph cracked me up.
The only reason why I don't give a damn about the politics is because i live in the Philippines and Idon't really know what's going on inthere. But come ot think of it, i'm quite apathetic of the politics here in the Philippines too. Or at least, I don't blog about it, since like you said, what I put on my blog won't sway a soul.
I just bought my husband a 360. Came with the headset, a wireless controller and 3 months of xbox life. But I went ahead and bought him a second controller, a battery charger for the wirless one and a wireless net usb adapter thing. Expensive >_> But he loves it. I'm not going to go out there and buy him a bunch of games, because games are expensive, so I just set him up with a gamefly.com account. They have videos, reviews, photos and what not on it, he gets 2 games out at a time...it works. He can keep the game and buy it or send it back for another. Works for him. We've been playing Halo 2 on xbox live recently.
@ToBeReborn - I might just rent the Halo games. I've heard they're the best thing since sliced bread, and I've heard they're over-hyped and not worth playing. I must find out for myself! Thanks for commenting!
@vwagenjetta - Well in my opinion, its a pretty good game, but I honestly don't think they were as GREAT as they were hyped up to be. It doesn't take much to beat them either. But it isn't a bad game. It's fun to play on xbox live. (minus the headset because the kids that play talk a lot of crap and are annoying to listen to) It's all 1st person
