  • My Idea

Everybody, me included, is bantering about how annoying it is to see that the majority of Xanga's featured posts are not from Xanga, but instead from Datingish, Revelife, and other "Xanga Powered" sites. I'd like to propose a solution the this mixed madness. First, return the "featured blogs" section to it's original Xanga-only state, and put the "Sponsored blogs" in the scrolling box at the top, or in their own featured list. This way Xanga can feature more Xanga posts AND more sponsored posts, thus making more money and more happy Xangans. Does that not make sense?

    Thanks, ~Josh

  • That makes sense.

  • we are looking into a solution where someone can set their homepage to show xanga posts only.  hopefully that will get at the same core issue you describe.

ps do you often user tag your entire friends list?

  • @john - I've never tagged everybody before, but a "select all" option would be nice. And if people are going to be able to turn off one of your sources of income, what's the cost going to be for the users?

  • @john - Can you guys maybe come up with a feature where we can block certain people from tagging us?  I know you can delete them from friends and block them,  but then that kills your reputation.  I get tagged about 50 times a week now and it drives me nuts,  because I never know if the post has me in it or people just want comments.

  • @vwagenjetta - We are not going to create a "select all" option for user tagging.  We may be forced to de-power user tags in some way, as it's been abused by some users.  Hmm what do you mean by , "what's the cost going to be for the users?"

@Dare2BDiferentt - I too am unhappy with the state of user tagging.  I'll continue to brainstorm, but please post your idea (and any others) to the Ideas system!

  • @john - Thanks!  I'll do that now.  Like,  this very second.

  • "the majority of Xanga's featured posts are not from Xanga, but instead from Datingish, Revelife, and other "Xanga Powered" sites"

It's interesting that you say this... it's definitely a distinct minority of posts.  It's never been a majority.  Also, we've been featuring more Xanga posts than ever.

In any case, we will address this.  But I don't think it's an accurate statement...

  • @john - Perhaps not, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. lol. And yes, user tagging does get annoying when people use it like this, but this is honestly the first time I've ever added user tags to a post that didn't include or wasn't about anyone tagged. I think Nick is right when he says people just do it to force people to come to their post and comment. But believe me when I say this is the last time I'll do it.

  • It is good to people posting concerns and to see John commenting on those posts as well.
